Thinking about attending HISTORICON for the first time, or will
this be your first convention? Then please read this.
HISTORICON is THE largest gathering of historical miniatures gamers
and Exhibitors on the East Coast. We expect upwards of 4000 attendees
from across the nation, as well as from Canada and overseas. But
the largest contingent will come from east of the Mississippi, quite
possibly from your very own neighborhood. So take the opportunity
to chat with your fellow hobbyists. Not only will you meet some great
people, but you might find a new gaming group and friends as well.
To get started before you arrive at the convention, the links below
provide some basic information. Please remember, this is a game convention;
games have rules, so our convention does, too... If you have questions
about any of the following topics, simply click on the appropriate
link.
Why join HMGS-East?
There are plenty of good reasons to join HMGS. As a member, you
are entitled to discounted admission to all HMGS conventions throughout
the country. For more information on HMGS, make sure you regularly
check the Web site at: www.hmgs.org
Convention Admission and Badge
You need an attendee badge! Your badge allows you Free admission
to the Vendor Hall, as well as to play in any game, attend any seminar,
enroll in any Hobby University course, as well as all other events
(exception being certain tournaments charge a fee for competition).
This is a great deal for a weekend of family fun! Your badge serves
as your ticket of admission to the convention, and it is a non-transferable
and revocable license. HMGS or the Convention Committee reserves
the right to terminate this license at any time, refund an attendee's
admission and require that a person leave the premises. You must
display your badge prominently as you may be asked to produce it
by a staff member (else asked to leave).
How Do Events Work?
Each event at the convention is described in the convention program,
but those available for pre-registration will be in the Preliminary
Events List (PEL) on this web site about two months prior to the
convention. Each event will note its starting time, location, period
of history represented, figure scale and the rules that will be used.
Many events also have a sponsor who has donated merchandise or credit
for Best Player of the event. Most important, all events (except
tournaments) are free!
Between events at the convention, you'll find many activities to
keep you entertained – from meeting VIPs of the hobby to looking
at the other great tabletop events. You'll want to check out the
great buys in our Exhibitor Hall, where you'll find everything your
heart desires in historical miniatures and hobby accessories.
Event Registration
Individuals who register in advance of the convention may register for two events per day. Events sign-up on-site will be as usual, i.e. there will be an events desk with the familiar ticket board and attendees will be able to sign up for one event per day this way.
Event Hosting – Games, Seminars,
etc.
HMGS or the Convention Committee reserves the right to refuse any
event to be run at the convention or terminate ones in progress,
should, in the judgment of HMGS or the Convention Committee, said
Event Host is not following policies as outlined hereafter. The Convention
Committee will investigate all complaints, and the specific situation
will be discussed with the event host(s), prior to any action taken
for the event in question, or future events, run by the same event
host(s).
Event Hosts are encouraged to allow minors in their events. However,
you can require adult supervision (i.e., parent or guardian) of under
age 15 minors if desired, but this must be stated your event description,
so it will be printed in all convention material (PEL and Program).
If this is a problem, then simply state,
"Under age 15, only with playing adult" at end of description.
In addition, Event Hosts, unless previously approved by HMGS or the
Convention Committee, may not state "No Kids Allowed".
Convention Regalia and Weapons
HMGS and the Convention Committee reserve the right to bar anyone
from the convention if we determine that clothing or symbols, hereby
known as regalia, worn are inappropriate for the convention. Regalia
that depict racial, ethnic, religious, sexist, or otherwise distasteful
messages shall be prohibited. Determination that a person or person(s)
is or are wearing such shall be at the discretion of the Convention
Committee. At the discretion of the Convention Committee, an Event
Host may be allowed to tastefully display 'symbolic' uniform parts
(i.e., German Wehrmacht caps or British Airborne Berets) from the
opposing forces in the game. This is not, however, an endorsement
of such practices.
Real or simulated weapons will not be permitted in the convention
areas (some vendors may sell them, but they will be wrapped securely),
nor will any item that in the Convention Committee's judgment can
present a hazard to our guests. Active Duty Military, Law Enforcement,
Security Police, and Emergency Services are exempt from this policy,
while carrying weapons in the performance of their official duties.
A Note to Parents and Guardians
Attendance at an HMGS convention is among the safest activities
imaginable. But we remind parents and guardians that the safety of
their children is their responsibility. You also are responsible
for the supervision of all minors, as well as for their behavior
at the convention site. Therefore, please make certain that minors
are supervised by an adult companion at all times, especially during
night time hours – and that they are playing in an event, back
in their hotel rooms, or in the company of an adult companion. The
Valley Forge Convention Plaza (Radission, Scanticon and Valley Forge
Convention Center) is responsible for security at the convention
(not HMGS), and officials from the convention site have the right
to eject those determined to have caused problems. HMGS is not required
to offer a refund if your children are removed from the premises.
So please, properly supervise minors. They are the future of the
hobby. And we want them to have an enjoyable – and safe – convention
experience.
Bring A Tape Measure!
HISTORICON is a miniatures gaming convention. As such, all attendees
are reminded to bring their own tape measure to all games you intend
on playing. Usually dice are provided by Event Hosts (gamemasters,
referees, etc.), but tape measures are an expensive commodity. Please,
don't forget to bring your own.
